How much website maintenance costs in Spain

There's no official rate, but prices published by agencies and freelancers in Spain follow a clear pattern: entry plans start around €30/month, most business websites pay €50–150/month, and online shops start from about €80/month. Above €300/month you're looking at large sites with ongoing development or guaranteed response times.

The gap between a €30 plan and a €120 plan is rarely about updates, which can largely be automated. It's about what happens when something breaks: who notices, how fast it gets fixed, whether backups are stored off the server, and whether updates are tested before or after your site goes down.

Type of siteTypical market priceUsually includes
Small or personal site (1–5 pages)€30 – 60/monthUpdates, backups, basic monitoring
Business / SME site (5–20 pages)€50 – 150/monthThe above + support, small edits, monthly report
WooCommerce shop€80 – 300/monthCheckout testing, payments, frequent backups
Large or custom site€300+/monthOngoing development, SLA, staging

What good website maintenance includes

  • Updates to WordPress core, theme and plugins, reviewed and followed by a check that the site works.
  • Backups stored off the server, with several versions and a tested restore.
  • Security: firewall, login protection, malware scans and clean-up if something gets in.
  • Uptime monitoring: an alert within minutes if the site goes down.
  • Speed: caching, image optimisation, database clean-up.
  • Small edits: text, photos, opening hours, a new post or product, usually with a monthly time cap.
  • SSL, domain and hosting kept up to date, with renewal reminders.
  • A monthly report explaining what was done.

Some plans bundle hosting. That's convenient, but ask which server your site is on and whether you can move it whenever you like. Your domain should always be registered in your name.

Monthly, hourly or annual pricing

ModelTypical priceProsCons
Monthly fee€30 – 150/monthOngoing prevention, predictable costYou pay in quiet months too
Hourly / block of hours€30 – 60/hourPay only for what you useNobody watches the site between jobs
Annual plan€240 – 1,200/yearOften slightly cheaperPaid upfront, sometimes with a contract

A monthly plan suits most businesses because it turns an unpredictable risk (a hacked site, an update that breaks the layout) into a fixed cost. Hourly works if your site barely changes and you handle basic updates yourself. Only commit to an annual plan with a provider you've already tried.

What changes the price

  • Number and quality of plugins: every plugin is one more thing to update and watch.
  • Whether you sell online: payments, shipping and stock make testing more demanding.
  • Heavy page builders and themes that break easily after updates.
  • Backup frequency: weekly for a brochure site, daily or real-time for a shop.
  • Guaranteed response time: 48 hours is not the same as two working hours.
  • Included editing time each month.
  • Starting condition: an outdated or infected site usually needs a one-off clean-up first.

What our maintenance includes

Our website and WordPress maintenance starts at €40/month + VAT, with no minimum term. It covers reviewed updates, backups, security and small edits, and you can cancel whenever you like.

The exact price depends on your site: a five-page website isn't the same as a shop with hundreds of products. We confirm the price after looking at your site, and if it needs an initial tune-up we tell you in writing first. If we built it (for example, one of our WordPress websites), we already know it inside out.

Maintaining a WooCommerce shop

Shop maintenance typically costs €80–300/month in Spain, and more with large catalogues or ERP and marketplace integrations. Every order is data you can't lose, so backups must be frequent; WooCommerce and its extensions should be tested on a copy before updating the live shop; and the full checkout (basket, payment, confirmation email, invoice) needs checking after changes. Our guide to online store cost covers these running costs too.

Our new websites include domain and hosting for the first year; from year two they renew separately. For the full picture, see how much a website costs.

What happens without maintenance (and when DIY works)

  • Hacks and malware, mostly through outdated plugins and themes: spam redirects, browser security warnings, your server sending spam.
  • Losing the whole site if there are no off-server backups.
  • Downtime nobody notices, or a broken contact form for weeks.
  • Lost rankings: slow, broken or flagged sites lose Google visibility, and SEO recovery takes months.
  • Growing incompatibilities that make catching up more expensive the longer you wait.

When you can do it yourself

You can handle maintenance yourself if your site is small, has few plugins, doesn't sell online, your host makes daily backups you know how to restore, and a day of downtime wouldn't cost you customers. Back up before updating, update plugins one at a time, check the site afterwards and enable two-factor login. For shops or sites that bring in most of your leads, DIY savings tend to backfire.

One-off jobs: slow WordPress, migrations and hacked sites

JobTypical priceUsually includes
Speeding up a slow WordPress site€100 – 400Caching, images, plugin review, database
WordPress migration€80 – 300Move, DNS, SSL, link and email checks
Malware removal€100 – 300Clean-up, password reset, hardening
Updating an abandoned site€100 – 500Version upgrades, replacing dead plugins

When a site is badly outdated, rebuilding can be cheaper than patching. Our web design starts at €400 with domain and hosting included for the first year, and we'll tell you honestly which option makes more sense.

How to request a maintenance quote

  1. Your website address and what it's built with.
  2. Where it's hosted and whether the domain is in your name.
  3. How many changes you make each month.
  4. Whether you sell online, and roughly how many orders.
  5. Any past problems: hacks, downtime, slowness.
  6. The response time you need when something fails.

Compare quotes on the same points: what's included, backup frequency and location, whether malware clean-up is covered, included edits, hourly rate for extras and any minimum term. Get in touch and we'll review your site and send a fixed price, no obligation. All our rates are on the pricing page.

FAQ

How much does website maintenance cost per month?

In Spain, €30–150/month for most small-business WordPress sites, excluding VAT. Online shops usually pay €80–300/month. Our plan starts at €40/month with no minimum term.

What does WordPress maintenance include?

At minimum: core, theme and plugin updates with checks, off-server backups, security and uptime monitoring. Fuller plans add speed optimisation, small edits and a monthly report.

Is hosting included in website maintenance?

It depends on the provider. Our new websites include hosting and domain for the first year, then they renew separately; maintenance is a separate service.

Is hourly or monthly maintenance better?

Hourly suits sites that rarely change. A monthly plan is better if the site matters to your business, because it includes monitoring and prevention, not just fixes after something fails.

How much does WooCommerce maintenance cost?

Typically €80–300/month, because shops need more frequent backups, checkout testing after updates and management of extension licences.

Can I maintain my WordPress site myself?

Yes, if it's small, has few plugins, doesn't sell online and you have time to back up, update carefully and check the site afterwards.
